Colorado is a battleship of the United States Navy. The ship's name comes from the American state of Colorado. She was the lead ship of the Colorado-class battleships and the only battleship of the class to survive World War II. The battleship Colorado was built on March 22, 1921 at the Maryland Shipyard in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. It was launched on March 20, 1923, and entered service on August 30, 1924. The USS Colorado participated in many battles during World War II, including the Battle of Guadalcanal, the Mariana Islands, and the Battle of Okinawa. After World War II, the USS Colorado was decommissioned in 1947 and sold to the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959 for use as a target ship. In 1960, the USS Colorado was sunk off San Pedro, California.
